履历简介

Maylyn Zongas took up the cello at the age of six, showcasing exceptional talent with local orchestras early on. By the age of ten, she was already a member of the NSW Public School’s Symphony Orchestra, and in 2018, she toured the UK and Ireland as the youngest member of the orchestra.

Maylyn has recently graduated from the specialist music school, Conservatorium High School, where she served as the Principal Cellist and led the school’s 12 Cello Ensemble. In her role as House Captain, Maylyn developed valuable skills in concert organization, efficient rehearsal management, and collaboration with musicians of all ages and capabilities.

Maylyn has graced numerous solo instrumental, choral, chamber, and orchestral performances at prestigious venues such as Vebrugghen Hall, Government House, Sydney Town Hall, and the Sydney Opera House. In early 2023, she clinched the Conservatorium High School’s Concerto Competition, earning her a solo performance of the Dvorak Cello Concerto with the Penrith Symphony Orchestra under the internationally renowned conductor and performer, Dr. Paul Terrachini. More recently, she was invited as a guest performer with her piano trio, working under the tutelage of world-renowned pianist Kathy Selby, at the Sydney Eisteddfod Kawai Piano Competition. Maylyn also performed with her string quartet for the Arts Unit’s Festival of Instrumental Music at the Sydney Opera House.

Maylyn has been privileged to learn from esteemed teachers, including renowned Professor Peter Rejto, winner of the 1972 International Concert Awards. Under the guidance of her current teacher, Dr. Ruben Palma, an international performer and finalist of the 2014 Australian Cello Awards, Maylyn has further refined her skills. She anticipates the additional privilege of being taught by famed Australian professor Julian Smiles, a member of the Golden String Quartet and Australia Ensemble, at the Conservatorium of Music as she embarks on her Bachelor of Music (Performance) in 2024.

Maylyn’s journey with the NSW Public School Symphony Orchestra, under the tutelage of Steve Williams, Elizabeth Scott, and Jack Ward, has equipped her with numerous skills for rehearsing and teaching students ranging from six years old to high school students and larger groups of young cellists. With over 11 years of playing, performing, and learning, Maylyn has cultivated unique skills in music teaching and gained a true insight into the development of those who aspire to be intrinsic parts of music-making.
